Kenya’s Inspector General resigns after terror attack

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on Tuesday that Kenya’s Inspector-General of Police David Kimaiyo resigned. The president made the revelation from State House following a terror attack in Mandera that happened earlier in the day, and for which Al Shabaab took responsibility.

President Uhuru also announced the nomination of retired Kajiado Central Member of Parliament, Major-General Joseph Nkaissery, to replace Joseph Ole Lenku as Interior Cabinet secretary.
Kenya’s insecurity issues are a major cause of concern, and caused citizens to protest last week in Nairobi led by photojournalist and activist, Boniface Mwangi.
