Hishad disclosed that the police got a tip  that a bathhouse owner in the Ramses area, near Cairo’s main railway station, was hosting sex parties.
The raid on the bathhouse seemed to have been coordinated with a pro-government television station. The TV station, al-Kahera wal-Nas, later showed undercover footage from inside the bathhouse which was recorded before the raid occurred. In the video, a reporter posed as a first-time customer and asked an employee about activities there.
In pictures of the raid which have been trending on social media, a group of men are seen stripped to the waist and being rounded up by men in civilian clothes.
Homosexuality is not explicitly banned in Egypt, but suspects are usually charged with inciting debauchery and violating public decency. In the last one year, since the military deposed Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, there have been renewed crackdown on lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people. Over 150 people have been arrested in the last year alone. Whereas some have been released, others have received sentences of up to eight years in jail.
Last month, eight men accused of appearing in a video allegedly celebrating gay marriage were jailed for three years each.
