“Corporate prostitution” hampering Uganda’s HIV/AIDS fight

“Corporate prostitution” is on the rise in Uganda and ruining the fight against HIV/AIDS in the country. This is according to HIV/AIDS activists who were marking World AIDS Day yesterday.
This new type of prostitution sees prostitutes build a network of customers and even have managers and client lists.
“They even have brokers who connect them to potential customers. And customers pay good money,” said AIDS activist Margaret Happy.
According to the activists, complacency in behaviour is hindering the fight against the disease.
The latest UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS statistics show that Uganda is among 15 countries which are contributing to 75 per cent of new infections in the world.
