30% of Europe’s Cocaine Passes Through Ghana - Dr Emmanuel Kwesi Aning

Almost eight to 30 per cent of drugs entering Europe passes through Ghana, security expert Dr Emmanuel Kwesi Aning has revealed.

Dr Aning said the situation is pushing Ghana into a state of rejection in the international community. “We have infrastructure that facilitates the [drug] trade,” Dr Aning said. The Head of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) made these remarks on TV3’s Agenda on Thursday, November 27.

“We have opened ourselves up and told the international security that airport security [at the Kotoka International Airport] is ZERO,” he pointed out.

He expressed sadness at the way issues of narcotics have been tackled in the country especially between the two leading political parties. “There is a certain acceptability.”

He recommended that those appointed to fight drug trafficking should be well resourced and paid well in order to insulate them from the influence of drug barons, who are behind political party funding in Ghana, he said.
